This small quilt was made for the AAQI: the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative [link]
Quilt # 6028

The labyrinth is sometimes used as a spiritual tool. Walking a labyrinth during prayer and meditation, we walk into the center and walk out again. When I saw this labyrinth it reminded me of a brain. The one way path of destruction that dementia and Alzheimer's disease presents. Into the center, into the darkness. The title of the piece, "The Road is Long" is the first line from the song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." This song speaks to me as I walk with my Mother on her road into the darkness.

It's got a pleasing shape to it even if the topic is rather serious. :3

My family were with a lovely lady who went through the process with Alzheimers. It was a year yesterday since she died and mum and this lady's son planted a rose for her. She loved roses even after she stopped being able to speak and mum would take her out for walks in the sun and the gardens and she'd point to them and touch them with a lovely smile on her face. :'3 Lovely lady, very sad way to go. I wish you luck with your mum.
